Transportation: available from multiple locations; Leave 12:30 pm. Arrive back by 9:00 pm.

More Information: We’ll arrive in the early afternoon for our hike (approx. 1 1/2 hours). The trail runs along the Potomac River into Harpers Ferry. After we cross over the bridge into the town of Harpers Ferry we'll the rest of the afternoon will be for touring.  Options include visiting the quaint shops and museums in the historic district.  Of particular interest is the history that surrounds John Brown who attempted to lead a revolution against the U.S. Federal government.  He led a group of men who sought to raid the armory building where ammunition was stored in order to arm slaves.  Many historians suggest that his actions provided the spark that led to the Civil War in the U.S. in the 1850's.  Also noteworthy is Jefferson Rock which is positioned on a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers.  Our third president, Thomas Jefferson, noted that the view from this rock alone made the trip across continent worthwhile! We'll stop for dinner in Frederick, MD at the Golden Corral (a buffet restaurant with over 100 different food choices) on the way home.
